February Member Spotlight: Halle Michaelsen

Tell us a little about yourself and what got you on the path to CrossFit…

I’m 18 years old. I started Crossfit back in 2016 when I was fourteen, but before that I did about a year of Crossfit kids lessons. I got into Crossfit because my dad and brother had been doing it for a few years and I thought they were super cool. I started with the hopes of having some quality time with my dad, and after my first real Crossfit workout, I was hooked. I dealt with some injuries in the past few years that halted my progress, but I am making my way back and I’m super excited.

What keeps you coming back each day?

I love pushing my limits and getting stronger. After dealing with so many different setbacks, seeing growth is more encouraging than anything.

What is your favorite at-home exercise to do?

Probably running or sit-ups. The love for running is a new development.

If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be?

Probably box jumps. They were in the first workout I ever did and I’ve loved them since.

What are 1-2 of your goals for 2021? Have you accomplished any of these?

I told myself I was going to get into the gym four to five times a week and that I wanted to get a strict pull up. I’ve been consistent with my gym days and I’m very close to getting my pull up.

Favorite Lift?

Cleans. Always and forever.

Least favorite Crossfit movement?

Inchworms. Don’t ask me why, but I just can’t stand them.

Hometown?

Born and raised here in Charleston. I’m a hometown baby.

Favorite Charleston Restaurant?

I’m a breakfast girl so I’d say Black Magic or Lost Dog Cafe.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I think I would be an EMT. I think quickly on the fly and am pretty cool and collected in emergency situations.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Don’t be scared to be a beginner or be scared to fail. Everyone is a beginner in some way and they’re not judging you because you don’t know. Also failing is just a part of life. Every failure is worth one success.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

I think I would meet Hailey Adams. She seems super cool and I think we’d be really good friends. I need a workout buddy.

One thing about me people would be surprised to know?

I’m actually a pretty good singer

If the CFJI coaches came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare?

I think I would prepare flank steak (with my dad's help of course) with a kale and apple salad. That’s one of my favorite meals.

Give us a “Question of the Day” to use in class.

If you could fluently speak any other language, what would it be?
