October Member Spotlight: Kelly Browder

Tell us a little about yourself and what got you on the path to CrossFit…

I am a James Island OG and if you’ve been in any classes with me, you probably know that. I have been married to Jay for 25 years and we have 3 kids, Caleb 21, Carly 18, Colton 12 and a Goldendoodle named Maggie. Caleb(senior) and Carly(freshman) both attend Clemson University so we are down to one at home. I love to spend the weekends boating and hanging out with friends. We are huge Clemson football fans and love to go to games when we can.

What keeps you coming back each day?

I love working out and getting stronger every day. The community at CFJI keeps me coming back.

What is your favorite at-home exercise to do?

I can’t seem to stick with any at-home routines. I love group fitness and need the push from the coaches. But I like to take walks and go on bike rides at home.

If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be?

Air squats for sure

What are 1-2 of your goals for 2021? Have you accomplished any of these?

One of my fitness goals is to gain more muscle mass and I definitely accomplished that in the January Life Challenge. I got super focused on nutrition and really zoned in to make that happen. A personal goal I have is to pay off debt. Although I have not accomplished this yet, I am still working on it.

Favorite Lift?

Split Jerk-It just feels empowering when you land it right.

Least favorite Crossfit movement?

Overhead Squat

Hometown?

James Island ;)

Favorite Charleston Restaurant?

My favorite restaurant closed down not too long ago but it was the Fat Hen on Johns Island. I guess Hall’s Chophouse is in the top spot now.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I always thought I would have liked to have been a nurse. I would like to try it for a day.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Go with your first instinct and trust your gut.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

Walt Disney I think it would be intriguing to hear him talk about his imagination and creations.

One thing about me people would be surprised to know?

I never played sports growing up but I did competitive dance and was also a clogger. Yeehaw!!!

If the CFJI coaches came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare?

Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli-It’s about the only meal I can cook without screwing it up.

Give us a “Question of the Day” to use in class.

How did you find out Santa wasn't real?
