September Member Spotlight: Patrick Garrison

Tell us a little about yourself and what got you on the path to CrossFit…

I have been doing CrossFit for about five years. When I turned 30, I realized I needed to increase how much I was working out and came to enjoy CrossFit because I like lifting heavy things.

What keeps you coming back each day?

I would say the community, continued desire to lose weight and get stronger, and I feel like the gym is a small place of normalcy during these weird times.

What is your favorite at-home exercise to do?

I actually really enjoyed the man-makers we did with dumb bells during the quarantine.

If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be?

Dumbbell snatches

What are 1-2 of your goals for 2020? Have you accomplished any of these yet?

Be more consistent in the gym and lose body fat/weight. I’m down 17 lbs year to date and have been averaging 4 times a Week at the gym. I’ve also learned a lot about eating and how the food you eat should fuel your body and not restrict it. I would love to lose another 8-10 lbs before the end of the year.

Favorite Lift?

Heavy back squats

Least favorite Crossfit movement?

Running

Hometown?

Columbia

Favorite Charleston Restaurant?

Royal Tern

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Director of the CIA, to learn all the intelligence secrets

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Don’t eat so many potato chips.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

Tie between Ronald Reagan or Johnny Cash

I have climbed on top of and repelled down the Great Wall of China

Give us a “Question of the Day” to use in class.

If you could have a private concert with any band, dead or alive, in their prime, who would it be?

Is there anything else we need to know about you?

I’m an avid golfer and Carolina football fan. My wife Kaitlyn and I have a seven year old American Foxhound named Sarge.
